The role of prenatal steroids at 34–36 weeks of gestation

Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at University of Cambridge Gordon Smith discusses a leading article from the July Edition of the Archives of Disease in Childhood Fetal and Neonatal edition with Associate Editor Jonathan Davis. The article states that administration of betamethasone to women with threatened preterm delivery at 34–36 weeks of gestational age to reduce the risk of neonatal respiratory morbidity may cause long-term harm through effects on the infant’s brain.
